Today I am taking you all to The Great Basin Community Food Co-op. When you walk into this little gem, it feels like Christmas. They have fruits, veggies, dairy, eggs, meats from local farmers, and much more. I LOVE this place! Everyone is super friendly, and most of what you would need for the week can be purchased in this one place.
I approach Farmer’s Markets, Farm Stands, and the GBCFC differently than a regular grocery store. I don’t bring a list, instead I look at all the gorgeous produce items they have, and I pick out the fruits and veggies that look fresh and full of color. I bring them home and make a menu around them.
Today, there were some really beautiful orange cherry tomatoes and sweet Romanian peppers from Latin Farms, red bell peppers from Nevada Ag,
fresh basil and amazing purple garlic from Mewaldt Organics that just came in,
baby spinach from Nevada Fresh Pak, sweet corn and green cabbage from Pioneer Farms.
I also picked up a loaf of sour dough bread from Truckee Sourdough Company and some milk and queso cheese from Sandhill Dairy. Side note: Sandhill Dairy is located in Fallon, NV and my handsome nephew works for them.
Lastly, I brought home a gorgeous bouquet of flowers grown by Smith and Smith Farms. They used dill as a filler, and it smells amazing!! All this from one place!
With my bounty, I am going to make Matty G’s Red sauce for spaghetti and Lasagna, Mr. Mike’s Bruschetta, a super yummy corn salsa… which I will be blogging about later this week. 🙂
